For over 50 years (1966-2017), Catholic Charities Disability Services and Ministries has offered persons with disabilities, throughout the Diocese of Cleveland, opportunities and resources to live life to their potential and to participate fully in Church and society.
Carol Mary Lynn Oden
February 24, 1955 – June 18, 2017
We are deeply saddened to inform you that Carol Oden, a dear friend of both Disability Services and Disability Ministries, has passed away.
Carol was a part of our family, attending many different events. She will be missed at our Walk of Hope and especially at our annual Journey to Bethlehem Mass. Each year, Carol, and her sister Joan, would bring up the baby Jesus for the Nativity scene. She would hand the figurine to Bishop Roger and as he would lean over to give her a kiss, her face would light up as if she were encountering Jesus!
She was Faith & Light! She will be so missed by that community. As you’ll read in her obituary, she visited many countries, all 50 states and met countless important people in her life, including Pope John Paul II (left), Mother Theresa and President George W. Bush, who gave her his presidential pin at the end of his speech at OLA/St. Joseph Center.
Carol was joy and kindness and light and we are blessed to have known her and to have been a part of her life. She will be missed but we know that she is rejoicing!
Carol’s wake will be this, Friday, June 23 from 2-8 P.M. at Fortuna Funeral Home, 7076 Brecksville Rd., Independence, OH 44131. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 24th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 2486 West 14th St., Cleveland, OH 44113.
Please keep Carol and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Here is a link to Carol’s Obituary.
CAEP Had a Great 2016/17!!
The participants of the Continuing Adult Education Program (CAEP) or Saturday program had such a wonderful year! They learned new things, they visited new places and they made new friends! Thank you to our participants and their families, but also to our teachers – Gerry, Mae & Michelle – without them, we would not have had the year we did!
