Since 1966, Catholic Charities Disability Services and Ministries has offered persons with disabilities, throughout the Diocese of Cleveland, opportunities and resources to live life to their potential and to participate fully in Church and society.
We are saddened to learn of the death of our very own original Camp Director, Bill Tighe. Bill was a huge part of Catholic Charities Disability Services. He was one of our founding members of the then called “Apostolate for the Mentally Retarded” in 1966. And we are so grateful for that!
In addition to beginning Camp Happiness out of the trunk of his car 49 years ago, Bill also ran Saturday Sports Programs for many years. He was all about sports and physical fitness. He was very interested in the work of CYO and spent many years on the board of advisors to Camp Christopher. He assisted Camp Christopher in developing camp programs for children and adults with disabilities.
He was a larger than life character who loved the children and adults he worked for.
Bill was a deeply religious man who could be seen at many of the weekend retreat Masses and other religious events. Up until his illness, Bill was a constant fixture at our annual Walk of Hope. He helped start the original Walk which was 20 miles long and was held at two different locations.
He was a very active member of the International Order of the Alhambra, a fraternal organization dedicated to assist programs that serve persons with developmental disabilities.
He also spent his career as “Coach” Tighe at the Center for Pastoral Leadership. In fact he was Director Dennis McNulty’s high school health teacher at Borromeo Seminary, as well as the coach!
Bill was loved by so many and will be missed. We pray for Bill and his family during this time.

The video is now ready for viewing at http://catholiccharitiesusa.org/c/end45 – scroll down to the image of a handsome, young boy wearing a striped shirt! That’s Nick! And our very own Dennis McNulty, Director of Disability Services, is featured as well! Nice job Meyers family!!
Dances at Rose-Mary Center
Due to reorganization at the Rose-Mary Center, they will no longer be hosting their monthly dances. We know you will miss these dances but we know this was a tough decision for Rose-Mary Center to make. But, for you who attended the Rose-Mary Center dances, you are more than welcome to attend the dances we host at OLA/St. Joseph Center – we look forward to seeing you there!
