Being a parent is one of life's most rewarding jobs, but it can also be one of the most difficult. At Catholic Charities we're here to offer families the resources they need to become successful parents.

Through a partnership with the County of Summit ADM Board, Catholic Charities Summit County offers Active Parenting Workshops at no cost to parents and families within our communities.

Through these workshops, participants learn a variety of parenting methods designed to guide them through every step of their child’s development.

Active Parenting

Considering signing up? Read on to learn why we believe in the need for active parenting today:

  • Parent-school partnerships
Parenting education can have a positive impact on the entire community. When community members work together as a team, their common focus helps parents become the best they can be.

  • Parenting as prevention
For many years parents have been primarily crisis-oriented, turning their attention to something only when a crisis occurs. Statistics have shown that simply treating crises does not help prevent them. As parents, educators, and people concerned about children, we must become proactive rather than reactive, and see ourselves as "prevention promoters” instead of "crisis caretakers."

  • Parenting challenges in today’s society
Many people question the need for parenting education in today's world. Yet our society has changed considerably over the last few decades, and today's parents face much greater challenges than previous generations of parents. Family status and security have shifted dramatically, making the job of effective parenting more difficult than ever before.

  • Need for positive influences
Parents, educators, and counselors have the power to make a positive change in our society through the ways they influence today’s youth. It's our collective responsibility to demonstrate positive values like cooperation, responsibility, courage, and self-esteem so children and teens learn by our example.

  • Positive impact on behavior
We are constantly introduced to more effective and efficient methods to bring about change to our child’s behavior, yet oftentimes we unknowingly reinforce the very behavior we are trying to change. In order to effect positive change in our children, we must first reflect on our own behavior and understand the changes we must make in our own lives.
