For the fourth consecutive year, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland has been named one of The Plain Dealer’s Top Workplaces of 2017. The Plain Dealer annually honors employers in the greater Cleveland area for outstanding workplace culture.
The Top Workplaces are selected on a basis of employee feedback through a survey administered by WorkplaceDynamics, LLC, a leading research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement. The 22-question survey measures various workplace factors such as Alignment, Effectiveness, and Connection.
“We know from our decade of research that it’s not perks or ‘coolness’ that makes the difference”, says Doug Claffey, CEO of WorkplaceDynamics. Rather, the factors that distinguish a Top Workplace from an average one is a positive workplace culture that promotes employee engagement, effective communication, and community building. Claffey adds, “The best workplaces are always looking to improve. After all, it’s a journey, not a destination”.
“There has been a consistent increased demand in the type of work that we do and a growth in the populations that we serve”, says Andrea Harris, Catholic Charities’ director of Human Resources. Catholic Charities employs over 700 individuals throughout the eight counties of the Diocese of Cleveland (Ashland, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Summit and Wayne). The organization offers a myriad of programs in areas such as: children and families, older adults, persons with disabilities, persons with emergency and transitional needs, chemical dependency counseling, family centers and day care programs, employment and training services, and community-based family services. Additionally, Catholic Charities advocates for the poor and the marginalized, administers to the sick and incarcerated, develops affordable market-rate housing options, and often partners with Parishes through the Diocese on programming and services. Employees consistently note that a strong sense of mission and values is what makes Catholic Charities a top workplace.
