About St. Martin de Porres
St. Martin de Porres was the son of a Spanish nobleman and an African slave. At the age of 24, he professed vows as a lay Domican brother. Ten years later, he took leadership of an infirmary and remained there until his death. Among the many miracles attributed to him were those of levitation, bilocation, miraculous knowledge, instantaneous cures, and an ability to communicate with animals. He continually practiced fasting and abstinence.
St. Martin de Porres died in Lima, Peru, on November 3, 1639. St. Martin de Porres was canonized in 1962 by Pope St. John XXIII. He is the patron saint of mixed-race people and all those seeking interracial harmony. (Source: American Catholic)
