Akron Interfaith Immigration Advocates & Catholic Commission of Summit County
Come and learn what the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Faiths say about immigration and migration. The intent of the evening is to share our own immigration stories and learn how it is reflected in the teachings of the three major world faiths.
The evening is free to attend and includes a simple meal. Donations are requested to help offset the cost of the evening as well as build up the assistance fund for Akron Interfaith Immigration Advocates. To Register, go to Eventbrite.com
We will begin with a meal and share our own immigration stories. Our conversations will help to put the evening into context. We will also hear the story of young person who is a “Dreamer.”
Our speakers are
Sr. Rita Mary Harwood, S.N.D. is the Director of the Secretariat for Parish Life and Development in the Diocese of Cleveland. She works on immigration issues in NE Ohio and regularly presents the Christian theology of welcoming the stranger among us.
Rabbi Joshua Brown leads Temple Israel based in Fairlawn. He and his congregation have been instrumental in helping to form the Akron Interfaith Immigrant Advocates.
Dr. Ghulam Mir, M.D. is on the Board of Directors of the Islamic Society of Akron and Kent. He is the Community Relations Director for the Board.
