Veterans Grant

St. Philip Neri Family Center is pleased to announce it has received a special grant from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services – Office of Workforce Development Veterans Program. These funds will support Veterans through Employment and Training Services.

The purpose of the ETS Veterans grant is to provide workforce supportive services to assist in employing and training Veterans for meaningful employment within the labor force and to stimulate the development of effective service delivery systems that will address the complex problems facing unemployed Veterans.

Celebrate

Grafton Reintegration Camp and Employment and Training Services (ETS) celebrate one year of successful partnership on October 2015. Once a month ETS’s Vocational Rehabilitation Coordinator Lashana Bolden facilitates Resume/Interview workshops at Grafton. Lashana’s role as facilitator ensures that each resident receives:

  • Up-to-date resume;
  • Skills to improve self confidence;
  • Interview skills to address barriers and;
  • Encouragement to seek, obtain and sustain employment.

Lashana enjoys teaching the residents and states that the residents are engaged and ask questions to get clarity on situations they do not understand. The residents are evaluated every month to determine what they have attained and what needs to improve.

Employment and Training Services appreciates Lashana’s commitment and contribution to help incarcerated individuals re-integrate back into society .

 St. Philip Neri 4th Annual Career and Resources Fair

On September 22nd 2016, St Philip Neri held it’s 4th Annual Career and Resource Fair in partnership with PNC Bank, Ohio Means Jobs, Cuyahoga County, the City of Cleveland and the Famicos Foundation. The event was a great success with 70 employers and community resources along with 329 job seekers. We look forward to a continued partnership with Cleveland Job Corp who provided the beautiful facility to host the event. We thank all of our sponsors and volunteers for their support as we work together to meet the employment needs of the community.

Success

In September 2016, a resident was released and went on an interview. He landed the job as a Manager making $13.00 an hour. The resident visited LaShana at ETS and thanked her for helping him update his resume and teaching him new interviewing techniques. Most importantly he thanked Lashana for her encouragement and for always telling him to keep striving for greatness and always pull the positive out of every negative situation. He said it was her lessons that kept him going even when he wanted to give up.

St. Philip Neri hosted its  1st Annual Mothers Day Brunch was held on May 9, 2015.

There were a total of 118 guests that enjoyed the sounds of Kevin Conwell and the Footprints Band and the chance to win fabulous prizes and gifts.

Our seniors, ages 55 and older, presented a fashion show and it was definitely the show stopper.   The lovely men and women were dressed to impress!

Many thanks to our guest speaker, the Honorable Judge Steven E. Gall, and Bishop Roger Gries of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish who blessed us with a word of prayer.  We would also like to thank the sponsors who supported the event.   All proceeds
benefit programs and services at ST. Philip Neri Family Center.  We will look forward to the next Annual Mothers Day Brunch in 2016.

2nd Annual Community Career and Resource Fair

Employment and Training’s  2nd Annual Career and Resource Fair held on September 18, 2014 at St Philip Neri Family Center was a huge success!

More than 200 people turned out for the event.  Over 40 businesses and community based organizations were on hand for jobseekers and community residents to meet and discuss opportunities for full and part time employment positions and resources within the community.

The career and resource fair is held every year and creates an opportunity for residents to look at jobs in the field of social services, retail, food services, manufacturing, customer service and more.

Employment based workshops and trainings  are held throughout the year, teaching; job skills and job search techniques to gain employment, including resume writing, dressing for success and interview tips.  Employers view these skills as an essential component to obtaining employment.

The event was sponsored by CareSource and the Famicos Foundation.  It was supported by Councilmen Jeffrey Johnson, Kevin Conwell and Cuyahoga County Councilwoman Yvonne Conwell who attended event throughout the day.
