Camp life affords children a unique opportunity to be a part of something truly special. In our vision, we strive to appreciate fully the role of diversity and to define the crucial and continuous commitments we must make as community to foster diversity at Camp Christopher. We strive to cultivate a welcoming, comfortable environment. In our summer family, campers and staff are encouraged to respect one another. Having fun is always regarded as more important that winning, and the attributes of good citizenship—friendliness, honesty, generosity and camp spirit— are held in the highest esteem. Central to the Camp Christopher experience is learning how to work and live together as a member of a group. Children of all ages mature through community awareness, because only in a group do we learn tolerance, compromise, acceptance and appreciation, the skills integral to achieving personal growth. Within a group, children learn to respect others, to work as a team and to contribute to the whole.
Life at Camp Christopher teaches a child to be supportive to others and to feel supported by the bonds of new friendships. Camp life allows for peer mentorship, building leadership skills and consensus building. On your child’s first day of camp, his or her counselor will work with the group to explain rules of the camp and encourage positive behavior. From there, your child will be immersed in a community where they will learn with their peers as they set and achieve goals, accept new risks in a safe and supportive environment, and grow in their sense of personal responsibility to themselves and others. It is easy for camper to thrive at Camp Christopher—a place filled with so many friends to cheer them on, with caring staff to show them the way, and in a beautiful, serene environment that makes a perfect place to create memories that will last a lifetime.
The strength of the Camp Christopher community yields unprecedented opportunities for the establishment of lifelong friendships. Long after camp ends for the summer, campers remain close and in touch. Year after year, they return to renew these special bonds of friendship. Our campers think of Camp Christopher as their summer home long into their adulthood.
