The Diocesan Social Action Office will devote substantial time and resources to these initiatives throughout 2014. These efforts will be highlighted frequently on our electronic legislative hotline, quarterly publications and on the website, enabling participation from a wide range of interested persons, parishioners and other members of our networks.
- Implementation of the legislative priorities of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Catholic Charities USA, the Catholic Conference of Ohio, Catholic Relief Services, National Rural life Issues and the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Issues of poverty, health care, housing, the economy, hunger, energy assistance fall within these priorities.
- Service as the diocesan liaison to Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice, a network of the 20 Catholic High Schools within the diocese of Cleveland to work together on issues of peace with justice.
- Continue in a leadership capacity within the diocese to advocate for Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Issues within the Federal and State budgets, particularly the expansion of Medicaid in Ohio as well as timely issues following the lead of the USCCB and Catholic Conference of Ohio.
- Provide staff support for the ongoing priorities of the Council on Global Solidarity, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and Catholic Relief Services by increasing the collections, securing additional funding sources in these areas and providing more services to the parishes around the goals and work of these organizations.
