YOUNG NEIGHBORS IN ACTION
Q: Tell us a little bit about your organization
A: We are from the High School Youth Ministry at St. Christopher Parish in Vandalia Ohio (just North of Dayton). This summer we participated in a week long mission trip in Cleveland through a National Organization called Young Neighbors in Action. More info about Young Neighbors in Action can be found at https://www.cmdnet.org/ynia-home
Q: How long have you been a volunteer at the Cosgrove Center
A: Our experience at Cosgrove was for one week, June 27-July 1, 2016.
Q: What inspired you to Volunteer at the Cosgrove Center
A: Our youth were inspired to volunteer so that they may learn about others and how they can fulfill their Christian responsibility to serve their brothers and sisters with the gifts God gave them.
Q: What have you enjoyed most about your Volunteer experience at the Cosgrove Center
A: The kids particularly enjoyed volunteering in the food service line at lunch time.
Q: How did you learn about the Cosgrove Center?
A: We were assigned Cosgrove as our service site for the week by the organization, Young Neighbors in Action.
Q: Is there any one experience at the Cosgrove Center that stands out for you?
A: The kids most enjoy getting to know other people, especially the children. Working in the clothing room is a worthy use of time for people who have come to help but also being able to meet people, such as in the food service line, allows the kids to put a real face on the needs of the community.
Q: What can you say that would inspire others to Volunteer their time
A: The best thing about volunteering is having your eyes opened to see that we are all in this together. There should be no division between the “haves” and the “haves nots” as the truth is clear to see that many our society consider to be the “have nots” are abundant with gifts to share that teach and bless the “haves”. But this can really only be learned by diving in and getting to know people as the unique individuals that they are.
