The Catholic Commission of Summit County hosts a monthly book club to read and discuss books on Catholic Social Teaching and current issues. We have read Compassion by Henri’ Nouwen, Tattoos on the Heart by Fr. Greg Boyle, S.J. Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson and The Moral Imagination: The Art and Soul of Building Peace by John Paul Lederach.
Since October is Fair Trade Month, we have chosen to read Fair Trade: A Beginner’s Guide by Jacqueline DeCarlo. Author and activist Jacqueline DeCarlo explains the principles behind Fair Trade and its’ development into a powerful economic tool. This book reveals why Fair Trade means more than just bananas, coffee, and chocolate. Packed with inspiring ways to make a difference, this book encourages readers of all backgrounds to help end poverty, environmental destruction and human exploitation.
