The Catholic Commission of Summit County hosts a monthly book club to read and discuss books on Catholic Social Teaching and current issues. We have read Compassion by Henri’ Nouwen, Tattoos on the Heart by Fr. Greg Boyle, S.J., Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson and most recently The Moral Imagination: The Art and Soul of Building Peace by John Paul Lederach.
September’s book is Saints and Social Justice: A guide to Changing the World by Brandon Vogt. This book uses the seven major themes of Catholic Social Teaching, as defined by the U.S. Bishops, and for each theme highlights two saints who especially embodied it. The result is a book packed with stories from those saints and others in the sidebars, of heroes putting these teachings into action.
Anyone is welcome to participate. You do not need to live in Summit County.
