Winter Sports Parents, Coaches and Member Athletic Directors:
We hoped you were able to join us last weekend at Parent’s weekend and that your coach and Athletic Director has shared with you the details of Team Mass Sunday this weekend, January 22. Please contact them for details.
As the season continues and tournaments approached for teams in grades 6-12, our culture, the “Way We Do Things Here” continues to be our focus. We believe that the young person, and not the athletic activity, is the primary focus of CYO. This belief calls us to display the Gospel message we hear each week when we are at home, school, work or a CYO game. Teams, coaches, families and spectators are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that game officials and those sitting around you could see your respect and dignity towards others, as Jesus would do. This can be best achieved when we respect the decisions of the officials and treat players and opponents with Dignity! When a child is at play, they are in touch with the purest essence of the energy of God!
CYO Sportsmanship Night
The Diocese of Cleveland CYO presents the Sportsmanship Awards to those teams who exemplify good sportsmanship and Christian values by living and modeling the CYO Mission. The deadline to nominate teams for the Sportsmanship Awards is Sunday, January 29. The CYO Staff, Member Athletic Directors and Site Directors will review the nominations to determine the recipients of the awards.
CYO will present the awards at the Diocese of Cleveland CYO’s Sportsmanship Night on Saturday, February 25, at Cleveland State University and February 28 at the University of Akron’s James A. Rhodes Arena.

Spring sports in the Diocese of Cleveland will be here soon! There will be 2 new offerings available to you – Lacrosse and Flag Football. Please review the following for additional information.
Lacrosse – Will be available to boys and girls in grades 3 to 8. The program will begin in late March and conclude in Early May. The 3rd – 5th grade program will consist of co-ed training sessions and controlled competitions. The 5th – 8th grade program will consist of gender specific training sessions and scheduled competitions. Registration will be managed through the Diocese of Cleveland CYO Office, not the parish/school and sessions will be held at locations throughout the Diocese of Cleveland. Registration will be open in early February. If you are interested in participating or receiving more information, please click here to provide us with your contact information.
Flag Football – We understand that sometimes parents may be hesitant about their child playing tackle football. But the child may still wish to play. To help, the Diocese of Cleveland CYO is offering a flag football program this spring for Boys in grades 3 to 8. The participant will learn football skills, while minimizing the risk for injury. Most game will be scheduled on Saturday. This is being done to minimize conflict with other spring CYO events. Practice would begin in early March and competition start on March 25. Teams will be registered to the CYO Office, so contact your parish/school Athletic Director to see if there is interest to field a team!
If you need to Report an Incident or Contact Us refer to the CYO website. If you experience an incident such as an injury, poor behavior at a game or practice, visit the website and click on the “Report an Incident” button to complete an on-line form to that will be sent CYO. See something that models the Culture of CYO, a team or coach who helps young people be more Christ-like, or the young person being the focus of CYO athletics, quality officials or site director, please share those with us also.
If you have a question or unresolved issue from your Parish/School, please click on the “Contact Us” button to tell us of the issue. These two avenues of communication are reviewed daily and the messages are distributed to those that can help. Remember contact your athletic director for help at your parish/school.
If you need sports equipment, Dick’s Sporting Goods Store may help fill that need. Visit the sports pages of the CYO website for discount coupons that can be used throughout the year. CYO will have another “Shop Day” at Dick’s on February 25-26 2017. Shop then to experience 20% savings.
