Championship information is provided so coaches, parents, athletes, and fans can share in the responsibility and enjoyment of a smooth running tournament. Your cooperation and that of your athletes and fans is appreciated and expected at these events. Diocesan Championships will be held for the Intermediate and Varsity levels in each sport. This playoff/competition represents a culmination of an athlete’s experience in the Diocese of Cleveland CYO. It is an opportunity to showcase the skills and sportsmanship our athletes and coaches have achieved through years of CYO involvement. Cadet, Youth and Junior Varsity levels will have play-off tournaments held at the conclusion of their regular season. These tournaments will involve a significant number of the teams that participated during the regular season. A gate may be charged for championships and play-off tournaments. The Admission Charges will be; Adults – $4.00, Students – $3.00, Seniors – $2.00, Family Limit – $12.00. All proceeds from the Diocese of Cleveland CYO Championships are placed in the Bishop Roger Gries CYO Good Shepherd Fund to assist our CYO members and staff with training, supplies, and support for the mission of CYO.
BASKETBALL TEAM PLACEMENT PROCEDURE
Teams will be placed in the bracket based upon conference strength and regular season record (i.e. Red #1 = the first place team from the Red Conference, Bronze #3 = the third place team from the Bronze Conference).
- Placement of teams will be determined as follows:
- Winning percentage – a team with a 6-1 record, a .860 winning percentage, would finish ahead of a team with a 6-2 record and a .750 winning percentage.
- If two teams have identical records, the team that wins the head-to-head game during the season will be seeded higher. If two teams play twice during the season, the winner of the game closest to the tournament is seeded higher.
- If three teams are tied and tie breaker “b” does not apply, we will flip a coin to determine the highest seed and then use tie breaker “b” for the remaining teams.
- If teams are tied and did not play each other, a coin toss will be used to determine the higher seed.
